Homemade Beauty Treatments to Tackle Lockdown Locks
As lockdown continues albeit with slightly less restrictions many of us have been forced to take matters of the hair into our own hands. Fringes have never been so wonky, isometric is the new straight and the bowl cut is making a come back!
If you have been forced to give yourself a dodgy trim during lockdown then look no further—no matter how wonky, now at least, you can help those locks shine, with simple ingredients you might have in your kitchen cupboards. Turns out eggs, avo and lemon don't just make for a delicious and healthy breakfast, they can also keep your hair in great shape too.
Check out the different ways these ingredients can treat your hair hair below.
Eggs
Condition any hair type (so they say)
For Normal Hair
Use the entire egg to condition hair
For Oily Hair
Use egg whites only to treat oily hair
For Dry Hair
Use egg yolks only to moisturise
The Egg Method
For a personalised treatment blend about 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is best for your hair type and apply to clean, damp hair. If you need more to coat scalp and hair use more as needed.
Leave on for 20 minutes, rinse with cool water otherwise you could have a scrambled egg situation on your hands (or head) and shampoo hair.
How it works:
Egg yolk contains many hair nourishing ingredients, including protein, sulfur and vitamins A, D & E. When applied to your hair as a conditioner, these nutrients have a chance to penetrate deeply, both strengthening and softening your hair. Egg whites are great to reduce oiliness in skin and your hair.

Avocado
Natures Defrizzer
The Avocado Method:
1. Mash up half an avocado and massage into clean, damp hair.
2. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with water. If you want to turn your moisturization up to the max you could combine the mashed avocado with 1 to 2 tbs of a hydrating ingredient, like egg yolks, or even mayonnaise—yep that’s right even mayonnaise!
3. Treatment can be applied every two weeks or whenever you’re willing to sacrifice your avocado on toast.
How it works:
Avocado contains fatty acids, which hydrate the skin - including the scalp, as well as keeping your hair cuticles in good shape.

Lemons
Squeeze away any buildup
The Lemon Method:
1. Mix 2 tbs fresh lemon juice, 2 tbs olive oil, and 2 tbs water in a dish.
2. Massage into your scalp whilst your hair is damp.
3. Leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo hair.
4. Treatment can be applied every other week.
How it works:
Lemon juice contains acidic properties, which help rid your scalp of any buildup or dry skin flakes whilst the
Olive oil moisturizes the newly exposed skin on your head.

Hopefully these treatments give your hair some much needed TLC as well as being an enjoyable way to pass some time during these very strange times. It’s certainly been a fun creative project to work on and has pushed us to think of new ways to make everday items look interesting and beautiful. With access to limited resources and without the (now) luxury of being in the same room, we were challenged to think of inventive ways to use colour space and light. It goes to show that collaborating together to create tangible things is still possible—despite not being in the same room. Through this process myself an Jo discovered that the creative success relies heavily on being able to communicate your vision clearly to one another. The process has also reiterated the importance of having a clear creative strategy and goal from the outset to make sure all parties know what direction to head in and how you plan to get their. This is something that is also really important when bringing a brands vision to life through imagery. We look forward to taking this collaborative process forward and working together with brands to bring their vision and personality to life through imagery. Although this has been a strange time to live through, we hope that this is the start of a positive creative partnership and the beginning of many more enjoyable creative collaborations between myself and Jo.
